Description

Dimethicones are clear, colorless liquids available in various viscosities. Dimethicone is a fluid mixture of fully methylated linear siloxane polymers end-blocked with trimethylsiloxy units. Methicone is a linear monomethyl polysiloxane. Dimethicone are safe as used in cosmetic formulations, vulcanization.

Dimethicone is a form of silicone used to give products lubricity, slip, and good feel. Commonly used in skin and hair products.
It can also serve as a formulation defoamer and help reduce the feeling of greasiness that some creams leave on the skin immediately upon application.

In combination with other ingredients, dimethicone becomes a good waterproofing material for sunscreen emulsions, and helps reduce the greasiness often seen in high-SPF preparations.

Formulation Guide

Colour & Appearance: Clear viscous liquid

Stable in pH range: 5.5-8.5

Grade: Cosmetic grade

Recommended Usage: 0.5 - 5.0%, up to 30%

Mixing Method: Should be added into the cool down phase of formulations at temperatures below 35°C

Compatibility: Works well with most ingredients.

Solubility: insoluble in water, can be dissolved in certain polar organic solvents, including ethanol and isopropanol

Application: skin care products, makeup, and hair products

Recommended Storage: Our water/Liquid based ingredients should be stored in cool temperatures away from direct sunlight and moisture in an airtight container. (Current Lot will expire: 01-2027)
