Activated Resorcinol ™ (4-n-Butylresorcinol) or 4-Butyl Resorcinol Powder is considered the most potent inhibitor of tyrosinase, which is why it is used in cosmetics as a depigmenting agent and lightener. In comparison to other well-known-skin whitening agents it is much more effective and provides good stability especially in emulsions and other cosmetic formulations. 4BR is an Alkylresorcinols which is widespread in nature and are found in wheat, rye and other cereals.

In the search for an alternative, safe and effective lightening/whitening cosmetic active to Hydroquinone, 4BR demonstrated to be the most effective depigmenting agent producing less irritation than the alternatives. Due to its structure, it has excellent bioavailability and is effective as a skin lightener that also gives an even tone to the skin. It can also be used for age spots and other hyperpigmentation. Compatibility: Activated Resorcinol ™ Should not be used in conjunction with Alpha Arbutin because the mechanism of action is the same but Activated Resorcinol ™ is more efficient. Precaution: Activated Resorcinol ™ is highly effective in whitening, using high doses can cause skin irritation. If it is a leave-on product such as cream or skin gel, it should not be used more than 1% and for a wash-off product such as soap, it should not be used more than 2%. Activated Resorcinol ™ is sensitive to light, the finished product should be protected from light. For example, filling the finished product in an opaque bottle. Continuous exposure to light darkens the color of the formula.
