Bromelain is an enzyme found in pineapple stems and pineapple juice. Bromelain is a proteolytic enzyme like papain with significance in medical ailments. It is extracted from the pineapple juice from its fruits, leaves, and stems. The main industries where bromelain enzyme is used are – , tenderization, food, detergent, cosmetics, and textile. In cosmetics, bromelain is used for removing dead cells from the skin. It is also a major ingredient in tooth-whitening dentifrices.
