Hexanediol CG is a multifunctional ingredient used as a solvent, emollient, moisturizing agent, and preservative in skin and hair care applications. It is a colorless hygroscopic liquid with a good humectant effect and spreadability. Suspending microbial growth, 1,2-Hexanediol is an ecologically friendly preservative and booster for other preservatives. Used as an emollient, it stabilizes emulsions while helping solubilize other active ingredients. In decorative cosmetics and anhydrous formulas, 1,2-Hexanediol is used for pigment wetting, control of viscosity, and stickness.

Thanks to compatibility with a wide range of ingredients, 1,2-Hexanediol is readily incorporated into the formulations, working well with surfactants, oils, and violate compounds, improving sensation, consistency, and penetration. It exhibits good compatibility with skin (losest irritation or sensibilization), excellent biological degradation profile, and antioxidant boosting effect. This diol found its application in many cleansers, creams, lotions, masks, hair care, and sensitive skin care products.

Haxanediol CG is Blend of 1,2-hexanediol and 1,2-octanediol (caprylyl glycol) , (with two hydroxy groups on 1 and 2 positions and six carbon atoms).

Formulation Guide

Applications: Hair and skin cosmetics, bath products.

Appearance: Clear, colorless liquid, with mild characteristic odor

Solubility: Water-soluble

Recommended Usage: Typical use level 0.5 - 1.5%. When making emulsions, add directly to the water phase. For O/W emulsions can also be added at post-emulsification stage. For aqueous formulations (gels or serums) use minimum dose of solubilizers as needed. For external use only.

Raw material source: 1-hexene and hydrogen peroxide; alkylene oxide and glycerin

Manufacture: 1,2-hexanediol is produced by oxidizing the double bond of 1-hexene using hydrogen peroxide as an oxidizing agent. Caprylyl glycol is synthesized via catalytic oxidation of the corresponding alkylene oxide. Ethylhexylglycerin is made from glycerin.
