Geogard® 221 Preservative is a synergistic blend featuring dehydroacetic acid and benzyl alcohol as the active ingredients. This product provides broad spectrum efficacy and low cost in use. Geogard 221 has global approval for most personal care and cosmetic applications. Tests comparing Geogard® 221 to parabens and paraben blends indicate higher efficacy and better performance in formulations with a low to neutral pH.
Geogard® 221 is a multi-use, broad spectrum preservative system that is a combination of Organic acid and alcohol that can be added at room and elevated temperatures. Dehydroacetic acid & Benzyl alcohol are both Organic compounds which are accepted for use in natural cosmetics, offering a broad spectrum of stability at a wide range of pH. The Organic preservative compound is a non paraben, non-formaldehyde, non-isothiazolone based preservative system.

Formulation Guide
Recommended Usage: 0.1 – 1%
Mixing Method: Add during the cool down phase in emulsions below 45°C. Can be added directly in anhydrous products.
Recommended Temperature: Add below 45ºC
Compatibility: Compatible with most preservatives

Application: shampoos, conditioners, moisturizer, cream lotions, bubble baths, baby care products, wet wipes and sunscreens..
Precaution: Not for internal use. Keep out of the reach of children. Keep away from eyes. Always test for compatibility with your formulation. Dehydroacetic acid is prohibited for use in aerosols within the EU
Recommended Storage: Our water/Liquid based ingredients should be stored in cool temperatures away from direct sunlight and moisture in an airtight container. (Current Lot will expire: 02-2028)
